2017 Brookside Mothers and Family Association Board

Elizabeth Sady

Elizabeth Sady
, Brookside Mom

BMFA President

She's the only lady in a house of men! Elizabeth is the proud mother of two boys. She's a full-time Realtor with eSADY Real Estate out of the Reece Nichols Plaza office. Although she enjoys a good meal, she hates to cook. Lucky for her, husband Tim likes to cook and is good at it! Her hobbies and passions include home improvement projects, garden/lawn work, skiing and just soaking up the sun in general. Her favorite vacation spots include Big Sur and the Bay area, Vail and Lake of the Ozarks. Elizabeth notes, "Attending our weekly playgroup has turned into a village of mothers, fathers and children who are there not only for my boys, but me as a mom, too. I never would have imagined the fond friendships we have made in just a few short years."

Nathalie Cabansag, Brookside Mom
Membership & Playgroup Chair

Nathalie lives with her husband and two-year-old daughter in Brookside. She's a stay-at-home mom who enjoys getting out and experiencing the world again through the eyes of her toddler. Nathalie loves to read, shop, get crafty, do photography, snowboard, and scuba dive. As a family, they love to travel the world. Being a German native, and with her husband being Filipino, they try to incorporate lots of cultural experiences for their family. Nathalie originally joined BMA when her daughter was just a few months old to get her started in a playgroup and to develop friendships. What Nathalie didn't expect was the amazing friendships that she would make for herself, too! "Our playgroup is an amazing support system for my entire family and sets a great example of community for my daughter."

Catherine VandeVelde

Catherine VandeVelde, Plaza Mom

Treasurer

Catherine is a Colorado native, but Kansas City is considered home. She's a member of the Waldo Brookside Rotary Club and enjoys photography and flower gardening. Favorite spots to take her Kindergarten daughter are the KC Zoo, The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, and the many children's playgrounds all around Brookside. Catherine joined BMFA when she was expecting, utilizing the group's online board for recommendations on child care, pediatricians, etc. As a full-time working professional, she helped establish one of the three "working mother" playgroups. She notes, "BMFA has a group for everyone, as well as offers great 'mommy-centric' activities like book swap and dinners out!"

Ashley Gall, Brookside Mom
Secretary

Ashley has called Kansas City and  Brookside home for five years. She grew up in Ohio, then moved to Chicago where she met her husband. She previously worked in advertising media, and now is home full-time with her two energetic sons, ages 4  and 1.5. When she can find time, Ashley loves to read and try new restaurants, and since she loves to travel, her goal is to live in Paris someday. She is thankful for her BMFA playgroup and friends for providing a strong support network and a place to share the joys and struggles of parenthood.

Amber Cordell

Amber Cordell, Downtown Mom
Special Events Chair

A KC native and city mom, Amber enjoys the convenience of “city living” i.e. walking distance to coffee shops and lunch spots, while appreciating the quiet community that is the River Market. Her recent decision to stay home with her daughter, Quinn, was accompanied by big plans to learn French, play the violin and make jams, only to be amazed by how quickly the days pass without accomplishing much more than creating the perfect, uproarious, baby belly laugh. Joining the BMFA was initially for Quinn so she could have the opportunity to play with her peers as she did in daycare (by play she meant stare at) but it has become so much more. The BMFA has built Amber’s mommy support system in ways she didn’t know she needed, and has become invaluable to her.

Lindsey Sauer, Fairway Mom

Philanthropy Chair

Lindsey is a Nebraska native (Go Huskers!) and moved to KC in the summer of 2015 by way of Denver, Boston, and Chicago. As a trained counselor, she has worked with children and families in several different non-profit and educational settings, which drew her to the role of philanthropy chair. Lindsey works seasonally in university admissions, otherwise spends her days running around with her three-year-old and infant sons, trying to drink her coffee before it gets cold (this has actually become a challenge), spending time with her friends and family, and discovering all the great things Kansas City has to offer. She loves BMFA for several reasons, but at the top of the list is the friendships she has built with interesting and fun moms who share in the adventures of parenting.

Michelle LeRoux

Michelle LeRoux, Brookside Mom
Philanthropy Chair

Michelle and her husband love to travel and explore new cultures. His work brought them to KC in 2015 after 10 years in London and BMA has gone a long way to help them settle in through making new friends and seeing lots of familiar faces on the Brookside kiddo circuit. They have a 4-year old preschooler and have recently added another little American girl to the family. Michelle works as a business change management consultant and is currently taking some time out to enjoy her super cute and cheeky girls. Growing up in Cape Town, South Africa, Michelle has been involved in fundraising and volunteer events from a young age. She is passionate about improving the lives of children who are less fortunate and is looking forward to giving more to the local community through her new role in BMFA.

Beth Seiler, Brookside Mom
Social Media Chair

An Iowa-raised KC girl, Beth lives in Brookside with her husband and toddler daughter. She spends her days being amazed and entertained by her no-lack-of-personality daughter while also working part-time from home as a social media contractor. Being from a small Iowa town, she appreciates "the small town feel in the middle of the city" that Brookside provides. She spends time with family and friends taking advantage of all the amazing things going on in KC. BMFA has been a life-changer for Beth! The friendships, experiences, support, and fun she has experienced through playgroup and member activities such as walking club, book swap, and social events have provided life-long friendships for her family.

Pip Cross, Brookside Mom
Book Club Chair

A New Zealand native, Pip spent 17 years in London before she arrived in Kansas City thanks to her husband’s job transfer.  Eight months pregnant and not knowing a soul here, BMFA was her lifeline and she’s thankful for all the wonderful friends she’s made through playgroup and BMFA events.  Events like bi-monthly Book Swap – which is 20% about books and 80% drinking wine while getting to know other moms. So even if you can’t remember the last book you read, don’t let that keep you away from BMFA book club. Last book she has read and highly recommends is:  Between the World & Me

Alexandra Muesenfechter, Brookside Mom

Health & Fitness Chair

Alex is a stay-at-home mom to 3.5 year old Charles, 1.5 year old Chloe and baby #3 due May 2017.  She worked as a litigation attorney until Chloe was about 5 months, and BMFA has provided an invaluable support network as she transitioned to her role as a stay-at-home mom.  Alex has always been highly active, participating in numerous marathons, half marathons, ironman and half ironman events over the years, and she currently teaches group fitness and spin classes at Fusion Fitness.  She loves good food and wine, and believes that it’s all about balance when it comes to health and fitness!  Her hobbies include travel (however hard with little kids), triathlon training, spending time outdoors with her family, and brunch (at-home, these days) with friends.

Meryl Cooper

Meryl Cooper, Mission Hills Mom
Social Chair

Chicago native Meryl has been lucky to call Kansas City home for three years. She is a stay-at-home mom to a 2-year-old daughter and an infant daughter. When not shuttling her toddler around, Meryl loves to travel with her husband, jog the neighborhood with her spirited dog, and explore the best places to eat and drink all over KC (especially with fellow BMFA moms)! In addition to being the BMFA Social Chair, Meryl is an active member of the Junior League of Kansas City. Meryl says, "BMFA has been wonderful for meeting other young families, and I feel lucky to call these women true friends. With so many women in the same stage of life, the bonds we have formed are invaluable."
